For Covenant Love Church‘s Children’s Facilities design project, most of the wallcovering was printed and designed by Wacky World Studios, to which I contributed some character artwork. Still, I had a couple of opportunities where I could design full murals.
Preschool Hallway
Adobe Illustrator,
Blender
The concept for this mural for the Nursery and Toddlers’ hallway was to show a diversity of children in different scenes all having fun together (all within the context of the overall ‘space / sci-fi’ theme of the Children’s Facilities design).
Character work was initially hand drawn in Clip Studio Paint. Outlines, color, and effects were all done in vector to keep the artwork clean and ensure proper scaling of the design for large print. A preschool-friendly design of the space station was designed and rendered in 3D using Blender.
At 42″ high, the full mural stretches to just over 74 feet long. I’ve just highlighted a few sections of it here.
“Look Like Heaven”
Adobe Illustrator,
Blender
Covenant Love Church wanted to highlight their new Vision Statement, “Becoming a Church That Looks Like Heaven,” so a new mural with the Power Team was requested. As this would be installed in the Children’s Admin hallway leading to classrooms, I chose a more detailed, all-ages design instead of the simpler, cartoony look for the Nursery mural.
Most of the elements, including the space station, hall window, spaceship, and satellite, were designed in Blender. The stars and outer space look were generated using a Nebula effects add-on found online. The characters were drawn in Clip Studio Paint, vectorized and effects added in Illustrator, and final compositing and airbrush effects on the characters were done in Photoshop.
